Carla Abellana Wins Best Performance at the Young Critics Circle Film Awards 2011

Kapuso star Carla Abellana won Best Performance at the recent Film Desk of the Young Critics Circle Awards.

image

Carla Abellana's performance in Punerarya (Shake, Rattle and Roll XII) gained the nod of the members of the Young Critics Circle. The Best Performance award is said to be the "most coveted as it is conferred on a screen performer whether male or female, adult or child, individual or as part of an ensemble, in leading or supporting role."

Carla tied in the Best Performance award with Raul Arellano for his performance in the movie Himpapawid.

Members of the Young Critics Circle seem to have a very high criteria as there was no other nominated actor for Best Performance other than Abellana and Arellano. Aside from their way of choosing nominees for Best Performance, the organization also "departs from many conventions of other award-giving bodies both here and abroad in bestowing cinematic honors. For instance, the award for Best Film of the Year is reserved for the director such that no separate prize for direction is needed."

YCC is composed of members of the academe from the University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University. The organization was established in 1990.
