Does Marquez's Constant Stepping on Pacquiao's Foot a Form of Cheating?

Some supporters of the boxing champ and Saranggani congressman Manny Pacquiao said Juan Manuel Marquez tried to cheat during their recent fight last November 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although Pacquiao was declared the winner, his fans said the Mexican boxer was constantly stepping on Manny's right foot and it was the reason why Manny wasn't able to perform well at the match.

image

But according to boxing analysts, there's no way Marquez's stepping on Manny's foot could hamper the Pinoy boxer. Recah Trinidad, sports columnist of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, said that the reason why Pacquiao wasn't able to perform as expected was because of the adjustment that he didn't do.

"... 'Yung adjustment na hindi ginawa Pacquiao na out-punch na sila hindi pa rin sila gumagawa ng paraan para kontrahin 'yun... obviously hindi sila handa dun," Trinidad told ABS-CBN's TV Patrol.

image

Even Manny's coach, Freddie Roach, said stepping on someone's foot is very common when southpaws face right handed people.

Thia Megia Sings US National Anthem in Pacquiao-Marquez Match; Trends on Twitter

Filipino-American and American Idol 10 finalist Thia Megia recently sang Star-Spangled Banner, the US National Anthem, in the Pacquiao vs Marquez boxing match  held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on November 12, 2011.

"Thia Megia" trended on Twitter in the Philippines on the day of the fight. Pinoys were evidently so proud of the singer singing the American Anthem.

image

A WhatTheTrend.com description on why she trended said "...Thia Megia will be playing Sunshine's sister in a [sic] upcoming episode of "Glee"." But we're not so sure about that. WhatTheTrend descriptions are almost always fan-generated that sometimes they are even not related to the trending topic at all.

Come to think of it, Thia Megia on Glee is not a bad idea at all!

What's sure, though, is Thia's riding the ZhuZhu Pets Float at the Thanks Giving Parade in New York City three weeks from now. She sang the ballad One Day for the soundtrack of ZhuZhu Pets, an animated film being released this Holiday season.

Pacquiao Wins Fight Against Marquez (November 12, 2011)

Filipino boxing champ and Saranggani congressman Manny Pacquiao won the match against the Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez in the fight held on November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao was declared the winner via majority decision after a very close fight that lasted 12 rounds.

This was the third fight between the two boxers. Their 2004 match ended in a draw while in 2008, their fight ended in a split decision in favor of Manny Pacquiao.

Pacquiao was guaranteed to receive $20-M for this fight, and that's win or lose. That doesn't include the sum he would make on HBO's Pay Per View. It was said that Pacquiao's fights are among those that register the highest income for the cable channel, so we can only imagine how much money he would bring home.

Filipino-American and American Idol 10 finalist Thia Megia sang the US National Anthem before the fight. The Philippine National Anthem, on the other hand, was sung by Filipino-Canadian and YouTube sensation Maria Aragon.
