Venezuela Wins Miss World 2011, Philippines Crowned 1st Runner-up

Miss Venezuela Ivian Sarcos won the title of Miss World 2011 in the pageant held on November 6, 2011 at the Earls Court Two in London. She was crowned by last year's winner, Alexandria Mills of the United States. She bested 112 other beautiful contestants from around the world.

Meanwhile, our very own Gwendoline Ruais was crowned 1st runner-up in the prestigious competition. She was also a finalist in the fast-track competitions Beach Beauty, Top Model and Beauty with a Purpose.

A lot of Filipinos were in the audience including the parents of Ruais. They were one of those with the loudest cheers, boosting our contestant's confidence.

Miss Puerto Rico Amanda Vilanova was 2nd runner-up.

The rest of the 7 finalists were Korea, England, South Africa and Scotland.

The rest of those who made it in the Top 15 were Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Spain, Zimbabwe, US Virgin Islands, Sweden, Italy and Indonesia.

Sadly, Canada's representative and former Pinoy Big Brother housemate Raquel Santos (Riza Santos during her showbiz career here in the Philippines) didn't even make it to the semi-finals.

Miss Ecuador Fernanda Cornejo is Miss International 2011

Miss Ecuador Maria Fernanda Cornejo won the crown at the recently-concluded Miss International 2011. The pageant night was held on October 6 at the Sichuan Opera Theatre in Chengdu, China.

Joining Miss Ecuador in the Top 5 were Miss Venezuela Jessica Barboza (1st runner-up), Miss Mongolia Tugsuu Idersaikhan (2nd runner-up), Miss Puerto Rico Desiree Del Rio (3rd runner-up), and Miss Panama Keity Mendieta (4th runner-up).

Miss Philippines Diane Necio was able to get into the Top 15 for topping the online poll at the pageant's website. Diane got 354,237 online votes making her automatically advance into the semi-finals. She was followed by Miss Macau with 318,276 and Miss China with 186,395 votes.

Miss Asia Pacific is a Joke?

How did Venezuela win first runner-up for the talent competition without doing the talent round? That's the big question at the Miss Asia Pacific being held in Korea.

Misses Wales, Guyana and Puerto Rico left the pageant to go home due to some questionable things happening in the pageant. They were held "hostage," though, by the pageant organizers by getting their bags.

The organizers allegedly promised Miss Wales that she'd win in the competition if she wouldn't leave, making the pageant a fraud.

The bigger question is, is this the first time something like this happened in a beauty pageant? Or are the girls just bribed by money and winning so none of them have spoken out until now?

Shamcey Supsup Receives Senate Honors

Shamcey Supsup was honored by the Senate on October 12, 2011 for her achievement at the Miss Universe 2011 beauty pageant.

The Senate has adopted a resolution that commends the Bb. Pilipinas-Universe for placing 3rd runner-up at the Miss Universe 2011 pageant held last month in Brazil.

The resolution says that Shamcey honored the country especially during the question-and-answer portion where she showed the world her being a Filipino with a strong Catholic faith.

To the final question if whether she would change her religious beliefs to marry the person she loves, Shamcey answered, "If I would have to change my religious beliefs, I would not marry the person that I love. Because the first person that I love is God, who created me. I have my faith and my principles, and this is what makes me who I am. If the person loves me, he’ll love my God, too."

The answer may not have won her the crown but she answered from her heart as a Filipino with a strong Catholic belief.
